Lady Gaga Dethrones Britney Spears: Britney Spears is feeling the agony of twe-feat. This weekend, Lady Gaga dethroned her as the celebrity with the most followers on Twitter.
Though Spears, 28, had a slight lead as of Friday, Gaga, 24, has officially taken the top spot, according to social-media tracker FameCount: At press time, she had an army of 5,720,931 little monsters while Spears slipped to 5,699,039.
Britney Spears was only on top for three months after claiming the number one spot from Ashton Kutcher.
According to internet research company famecount.com Lady Gaga’s facing growing competition from Justin Beiber though.
While she is the most popular star she’s not the fastest growing.
That title belongs to the Canadian teenager who is currently racking up almost 800,000 new followers a month. In an online video, the new Twitter champ thanked her fans. Wearing a classic Lady Gaga outfit with Twitter symbols, she started the video message with the words: “Hello world, this is Lady Gaga, queen of Twitter.”
Gaga called her fans her “little monsters” as she thanked them for beginning “my reign as Twitter queen.”
Spears, Ashton Kutcher, Ellen DeGeneres and an account run by President Barack Obama’s political organization, Organizing for America, all have more than 5 million followers. The most followed title often shifts rapidly, and fans frequently organize to boost their favorite’s tally.
